Dear Horse Owner:

Do you have problems getting rid of your horse manure?  If so, you are not alone, and we want to help!  There are a number of environmental and educational groups in Massachusetts who are interested in helping solve this problem as well, and we have partnered with one of those groups, the Patriot Resource Conservation & Development Council, to do just that.  They are a non-profit organization that covers five counties in Massachusetts and works with the conservation branch of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.  They have received a grant to study the problem in three Massachusetts towns: Ashby, Pepperell, and Townsend.  (For further information about this group, visit www.patriotrcd.org )

We would like you to share with us two main things:

    • what your top problems are with horse manure storage and disposal; and
    • how we can help
  • The SURVEY, which is anonymous, will help us do that.  (You can include your name and address if you want to receive further materials on this topic.)  There are no costs or obligations related to filling out this survey, of course!

Patriot RC&D want to help create some real solutions for you, you can find some in this document.

  • Patriot RC&D made a recent donation as a result of 4H helping with this survey. With this money, HAC plans to fund activities to support our local 4-H horse program, and to help educate 4H members about the solutions of working with manure.

To find out about all the events across the state go to the 4-H Program Calendar @ UMass Extension...
